I’m a traditionally-published author and award-winning writer with stories in places like the New York Times, National Geographic Traveler, GQ, The Week, and on NPR’s “All Thing’s Considered.” I help other writers through my private courses and my popular workshop at Stanford. My students have landed literary agents, traditionally published with big New York houses like Penguin Random House and Hachette, self-published, won awards, and been featured in places such as Harper’s, the Los Angeles Times, Today.com, Ms. Magazine, and The Atlantic.
 
Before working with Carol at one of her retreats, I was terrified of speaking in public. And if, God forbid, there was a stage involved… forgetaboutit. 😱 Sweaty palms, shaky legs, pounding heart. Carol gave me concrete techniques to leverage my skills as a writer, engage the audience, sound more conversational (i.e. not boring), move deliberately on the stage (and know WTH to do with my hands), and conquer anxiety once up on stage. I’m not gonna lie. I still get a little nervous, but I also feel far more confident, and apparently, I sound that way, too. I have even been called a charismatic speaker on multiple occasions. I’m not sure I buy that, but I’ll take it!

I'm the founder and CEO of Speaking Your Brand®, a coaching and training company that works with women entrepreneurs and professionals to develop their thought leadership platforms, create their signature talks, and improve their public speaking skills. I host the weekly Speaking Your Brand® podcast and I speak often on business storytelling, brand voice, and women’s leadership. During election seasons, I serve as a political analyst on TV news and I've appeared on TV over a hundred times. I graduated with a Master’s degree in History from Emory University. My mission is to empower more women to find and use their voice, to tell the stories that need to be told, and to activate ideas for change.
