1:1 Book Proposal Intensive
+ Publishing Prep

This year I’m offering a few select 1:1 coaching spots for wholehearted authors whose books can help people see the world in a new way. This intensive is by application only, so please review how it works to see if we’re the right fit.

If you’ve drafted a proposal, congratulations! 🎉 That is no small feat. You’ve come this far because you know this book has the potential to make a difference, maybe even change your readers’ lives. You can see yourself signing at bookstores and speaking on bigger stages.

Those goals aren’t just worthwhile, they’re necessary. When we claim space for our stories, we redefine what power looks like. Your voice matters. We need to get it out there.

But, no matter how you aim to publish, the competition is fierce. To stand out enough to land a traditional book deal or to self-publish a book that readers will actually buy and recommend, you need three things:

  1. A strong hook that makes your book easy to market
  2. A cohesive structure that takes readers on a satisfying journey
  3. A compelling, well-written story that makes us keep turning the pages

Every piece of your proposal and book will need to tightly deliver on those elements: your pitch, your marketing plan, your chapters. All of it.

Is your book proposal ready for agents and publishers?

Let's do this together!

That's where I come in. As a book coach who has been on both sides of the desk—supporting myself as a writer and receiving queries as a magazine editor—I know how much this matters to you, and I know what it takes to stand out.

Through my highly-personalized, one-on-one Book Proposal Intensive, I can help you make your book a reality.

This is so much more than an edit...

It's a Strategic Collaboration

You don’t want to slap some pages together, call it a book, and upload it to Amazon. (Believe me, no one wants to read that!) You want to write a damn good book that makes an impact. A book that will put you on the stage at your favorite event and land you on the podcasts you admire, a book good enough for the front tables of Barnes & Noble.

If you want to do that through traditional publishing, you know that means getting professional eyes on your proposal before you start pitching it. But your book deserves more than a red-pen edit that cleans up your grammar and hands you a laundry list of what you’re doing “wrong.”

With a typical edit, you send in your proposal or manuscript and a few weeks or months later you get it back all marked up and with an editorial letter that summarizes its strengths and weaknesses. It’s generally effective. I’ve paid for that type of edit on my own work, and I’ve offered that type of edit to my clients. But I always felt like something was missing. Not to mention how overwhelming it can be to receive feedback of that magnitude. It’s hard to know how to even begin tackling it.

To better support you, I created a 6-week program where we’ll work collaboratively and in-tandem to ensure your manuscript reaches its full potential.

We’ll start with an initial review and strategy session, and then you’ll tune up your proposal before my detailed edit. That will save you time and money and will allow me to provide more finely tuned and more advanced feedback and advice. My support doesn’t end when I send you my notes. We’ll later have a Path to Publication session, and you’ll have me in your pocket with 30 days of Voxer support to ask clarifying questions or get a pep talk as you begin querying agents or publishers.

The Book Proposal Intensive Timeline

Here's How We'll Work Together

Weeks 4-5. My Expert Feedback + Agent & Publishing School

I’ll closely read the entire proposal, twice, including up to three sample chapters.

When I’m finished, I’ll provide you a thorough written assessment with big-picture, developmental notes on the proposal as a whole, and I’ll return your proposal with line notes on the page via comments and track changes.

While I’m working on all of that, you’ll get access to all of my Query Like a Pro lessons on pitching agents and publishers, along with templates, worksheets, and example query letters so you can draft or polish yours before our final session.

You’ll send me your query letter at least 48 hours before our last session.

Before we jump in to your book proposal intensive, I’ll send you targeted prep work designed to help us both get more clear on your book’s strengths and opportunities.

Book Proposal Intensive Prep Work

Week 1. 90-Minute Strategy Session

After I’ve reviewed your prep work and current proposal, we’ll dive deep over Zoom. This session allows us to first sharpen your strategy—your positioning, audience, your structure—so you can bring me a stronger proposal from the outset.

I’ll share the strengths I think you should play up, the places where you can make things stronger, and we’ll create a plan for you to notch things up before I provide my detailed, written feedback.

Weeks 2-3: The Two-Week Tune up

Using the strategies we developed on our call, you’ll have two weeks to revise and tighten your proposal so you can highlight your strengths and get the most personalized and advanced level of feedback from me (and the most bang for your buck).

Week 6: Path to Publication Session

It’s almost time to put your proposal out into the world! We’ll meet for 60-minutes to go over your query letter, your plans for revision, address questions, and strategize solutions.

I’ll also give you feedback on your query letter + a list of 5-10 agents I think might be a good fit.
We’ll also sketch out your publishing roadmap with specific next steps.

🔥 Bonus: 30 days Post-Intensive Implementation Support

As you revise and start pitching agents, you’re bound to have some quick questions, want advice, need a pep talk or a suggestion for getting unstuck. For 30 days after our Path to Publication session, you’ll have direct Voxer access to me (Monday - Friday). This voice messaging app lets us communicate asynchronously—no need to coordinate calendars—so you have my expert support in your back pocket.

*This does not include another read or assessment of revisions.

Before working with Tiffany, I had almost given up hope of securing traditional publishing for my memoir. Tiffany held my hand through the process of creating a polished proposal. She helped me find the best agents for my project, and cheered me on when the proposal requests and offers came in. After two weeks of querying, I landed the perfect agent for me....and then a lucrative book deal.

What my clients and students are saying...

"Tiffany broke a giant project into weekly steps and encouraged me to keep going until I finished. She understands what needs to be done and explains each part clearly.

I always knew what I needed to do and did not get overwhelmed by the whole project. I was thrilled to be sending out my query letter and book proposal. Two of the agents I queried quickly asked for the whole proposal and one of them is now representing my book!”

—Dr. Zoe Shaw, therapist, podcaster, author of Stronger in the Difficult Places (Penguin Random House)

—Lisa Niver, journalist, blogger, and author of Brave(ish), (Post Hill Press)

"Working with Tiffany is amazing on so many levels. She helps writers gain so much power and purpose through their words. She provides needed insight and experience based on her own incredibly successful writing career. And, maybe most of all, she fosters the authentic sense of confidence that ALL writers need. Tiffany is the best!"

Who the Book Proposal Intensive is for:

If you’re writing fiction, you’ll need a complete manuscript, not a proposal. I highly recommend my friends over at The Novelry.

If you think writing and publishing a book will be quick and easy.

It's not for you if...

If you just want to call yourself an author or create a lead magnet but don’t really have something to say.

If you want an edit of your complete manuscript. The intensive only includes the three chapters you plan to include in your proposal.

You’ve already written a nonfiction book or memoir proposal and now you want my eyes on it.

I’ll assess what you already have and help you reach this book’s full potential so you can confidently start pitching agents and publishers.

You’re ready to put your heart, soul, and time into the strategy session and your rewrite. If you don’t have the bandwidth to prioritize your proposal, this isn’t the right time for you. I don’t want to take your money if you won’t be able to make the most of this collaboration!! I’ll walk you through it step-by-step, but you have to be willing.

If you still need help getting your proposal off the ground, consider Breakthrough Book Proposal, my application-only group coaching program where I’ll take an intimate, supportive and tight-knit group from idea to completed proposal. Get on the waitlist to apply for the next session here. (I also offer a few 3-month pre-intensive, 1:1 coaching spots each year. Inquire here.)

About YOU...

If you’re ready to write and publish a nonfiction book or memoir that can help people see the world in a new way, we might be the perfect fit. I’ve worked with therapists, podcasters, entrepreneurs, speakers, scientists, travelers, bloggers, and other thought leaders, helping them land literary agents and traditional book deals.

I only take on a handful of 1:1 clients each year and work with ambitious authors who want to do good in the world and who are ready to roll up their sleeves, open their hearts, and work hard to bring a powerful story into fruition.

My programs and services are for aspiring authors who are ready to invest the time and energy to take their proposal seriously.

What if you haven’t finished a draft of your proposal yet?

This is for you if...

I’m an award-winning traditionally published author, writing coach, and a graduate of UCLA and the MFA program at UC Riverside. I now teach nonfiction writing at Stanford Continuing Studies, have more than 20 years of experience in the publishing industry, and have written for places like The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, National Geographic Traveler, GQ, The Week, and NPR’s “All Things Considered.”

I’ve been on both sides of the desk—as a writer pitching my heart out, and as a gatekeeper reviewing queries from publicists and writers. I know what it takes to push past fear and writers block to follow through and ultimately get an agent or publisher’s attention.

Tiffny is full of knowledge and experience, and rather than telling you what to do, she shows you. Coming into her program, I had a solid book proposal but knew it was missing a few things. After working with her, I knew precisely what to do to get from glowing passes from agents to a 'yes.' I only wish I had taken her approach sooner.
